A new study shows that the price of prescription Nexium is significantly lower than the cost of a non-prescription heartburn medication.
The results come from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2015, and the results were published on Monday in the New England Journal of Medicine.
In the study, scientists analyzed prices of Nexium and Nexium-containing medications in the US, as well as other major drugstores and online pharmacies, over a five-year period. They found that the lowest prices were for drugs for heartburn and acid reflux, while the highest prices were for over-the-counter and prescription-only medications.
The researchers say that the findings are important because they offer an early indication of the risks associated with taking Nexium.
“The results provide further evidence that the price of the over-the-counter medication, which contains the medication, is significantly lower than the cost of a non-prescription medication,” said Dr. Peter Zuckerman, an endocrinologist and author of the study.
The study was conducted by the US National Institutes of Health.
The researchers also noted that the study’s findings do not show that Nexium is the same drug as other non-prescription heartburn medications, such as Prilosec, Nexium Z-835 and Prevacid.
Nexium, which is marketed in the United States as Prevacid, is available in the US as an over-the-counter tablet, as well as a prescription, and is sold at a price of $6.99 a tablet. Prevacid is available over-the-counter as a prescription and a non-prescription drug.
Nexium is an over-the-counter treatment for chronic heartburn that is also used for other conditions, such as acid reflux.

The FDA says that the drug may also have fewer side effects than the drug for which it is prescribed. In addition, the results from the study do not indicate a serious risk of heartburn or other gastrointestinal bleeding.
